the Evolution and impact of Twitter

Twitter, renamed as X (though we’re going to keep calling it Twitter), is a social media platform launched in March 2006 by Jack Dorsey, Biz Stone, Even Williams and Noah Glass. It allows people to connect, discover stories, follow others, and communicate with friends, allowing users to share 280-character thoughts, jokes, news, and other content. (What is Twitter). The definition of Twitter is a short burst of inconsequential information and chips from birds. A free social networking site where users broadcast short posts known as tweets (Hetler).

The idea of Twitter came from wanting to use short messaging systems for a small group. What began as an idea in 2006, Jack Dorsey had initially imagined Twitter as an SMS-based communications platform. On March 21, 2006, at 9:50 p.m., Jack sent the first message on Twitter; it read, "Just setting up my twttr." It was then available to the public in July 2006(HubSpot).

The critical features of Twitter are versatility, covering news, personal expression, professional networking, and providing or tweeting real-time updates. The platform caters to a global audience with diverse topics; authenticity, engagement and respect are key on Twitter. Businesses can use Twitter for promotions, campaigns and updates.

Twitter, now called X, is a platform where people get the latest updates on various topics and events. Still, other players like Facebook and Instagram exist in the social media landscape. Although media is where people share content, each platform is unique. Facebook acts more like a platform where you can connect with friends and family. Twitter is about the latest developments on any topic, industry location or event.

Twitter is popular among young people, professionals, and celebrities. Why is that? Quick access to news updates, the ability to follow favourite celebrities and engage with them,

The #BLACKLIVEMATTER (BLM) movement emerged in 2013 and gained momentum on Twitter, becoming a key platform for organizing protests and raising awareness about racial justice. I find Twitter to be more for middle-aged adults or celebs,

I find Twitter exciting and sometimes entertaining because I can see what is happening in real-time; I enjoy engaging in discussions, following trends, and just reading other people's comments,

Twitter is a unique platform that combines speed, interactions, and diverse voices, it allows to users to share information quickly and connect, making it an important tool in today's evolving digital world.
